SMAU is the second largest HI-Tech exhibition in Europe, and attracts about 500,000 visitors every year. We have participated to robot soccer demonstrations together with the Artisti Veneti, and the Fraunhofer Institute teams.

The Official FIFA referee in action at SMAU

In this picture, a referee sent by the Italian Soccer Federation (FIFA) in action on the field. He came with their new official uniform, including orange socks,
here covered by black tape since we were not yet ready to manage this!

Our team was just be reconstituted with new students who worked a lot to the prepare this event.

Unfortunately, the robots where not yet reliable, and many practical problems didn't allow us to show our best.

The event gave us the possibility to identify problems to be fixed.

We had a good media coverage, including the participation to the most important Italian human soccer TV program. In the picture below, the "ola" broadcasted live.

Lessons from this event

  • it is important to accept deadlines when it seems reasonable to be ready for them
  • deadlines and events are important to really make a team of people and to burst improvements.
