We arrived in Padova for Robocup 2003 with old robots, quite damaged electronics, and many practical problems due to generational changes.

Our performance has been very poor, and we have not been able to pass the first round robin.

In some games, the robots have been on the field, but due to communicaton problems they couldn't even start....

It was clear from the beginning that it would have been a disaster. In the picture below, the control table of the team after the first half of a game.

On the lower left, a team member shows on his back how we expected to investigate on problems ;-)
Matteo, on the right shows his desperation, while Domenico is asking: " Why is this happening?" Marcello seems to smile, but it is just for not crying: all his nice software cannot work if the robots do not run...
The fat guy in the middle is the team leader discussing the situation, and the faces of people clearly show that nothing was really clear...

When everything gets lost, there is room for crazyness...

Let's exploit the mirror at least for a group picture!

Lessons from this event

  • it is important to get ready well before the deadline
  • the team must able to rely only on people at the competitions: the others have to have done their job before, and it should reliably work
